Habano Finder

Isn’t it a pain finding your favorite Cuban cigar? No? Well it is for some people! And those people would be diehard cigar afficionados who prefer the habano over all others (habano referring to cigars “from Havana”). And a good chunk of those habano smokers are also travelers who enjoy being able to find a decent cigar shop when they get off the plane in a new town. That’s where the website Habano Finder comes in: a search engine for your favorite Cuban cigars.

Habano Finder logo suite

The founder of Habano Finder asked us to create a logo and mini brand for his new site. We gave him enough identity elements to launch in style. A simple but rich color palette pairs with the vintage style of the Brothers typeface. Work Sans, available free from Google Fonts, complements the brand as a legible sans serif text font with classic grotesque influence.

Script Akron

A while back we were at a friend’s house admiring an antique piece of art on his wall, which seemed to be a painted lithograph mounted on wood, or some other mixed media technique, which doesn’t matter at all to the scope of this project. What caught our eye was the great script lettering spelling out the name Akron in The Akron Brewing Co. title at the bottom of the artwork. “That sure would make a great t-shirt,” we thought.

The Akron Brewing Company painted lithograph reference

We took a photo and did a rough tracing, making a few changes, adjusting the stroke weight to be a little more consistent, and playing up the sharp curves of the original. Then we did a quick and dirty vector tracing of that sketch, before polishing it in our favorite font program Glyphs.

The final lettering turned out rather nice. It would definitely look good on a t-shirt!

Pandemia Dessert Wine

Ah, the good old days of the pandemic. If you weren’t sick, you had all this extra time for hobbies and projects, right? Yeah, that wasn’t us, either. But our friends at Wolf Creek had some time, and a batch of very decent white port they were sitting on, and decided to lighten everyone’s spirits (although at a hefty 17% alcohol content). So they asked if we could design a label for this special release.

Our back and forth produced some initial designs bordering on queasy, but we wanted to reference the virus that was causing so much fun in our lives. The government, however, didn’t like that reference so much. We took a different tack and toned down the graphics to something more abstract but still bold with an unexpected color combination. Dark green foil stamping and a frosted bottle ended up being just what the doctor ordered (right before he tested positive).

Luna Bella’s Sewing School

One of our favorite clients, Tesse at Luna Bella’s, reached out to us to share a new opportunity and ask if we could come up with a logo for it. Based on the success of her workshops and word-of-mouth demand, and with the timely physical expansion of her business into the next door space, she decided it was time to launch the Luna Bella’s Sewing School.

We kept it simple with a round badge shape. The LB monogram became loops of thread through a needle. The outer border is “stitched.” Colors and type are from the identity standards we established for her business.

We would take classes ourselves if it wasn’t so far away! It’s been a long time since junior high Home Ec class. See the full Luna Bella’s case study here.
